"The Word of God"

Text: Psalms 119:89  “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
Intro: Jesus said that the field was the world and that the seed was the Word of God.  It is our responsibility to distribute
the Word of God to those who have never heard. This morning I want to share with you three reasons why we should
          share the Word of God.
I.  The Permanence of the Word of God. (Psalm 119:89). “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
    A. There was never a time when the Word of God did not exist, (Jn. 1:1), "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God."
        1. That means that before the light of day, there was the illumination of the Word.
    B. Before the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the oceans, the rivers, streams, and lakes, before the deserts, the
trees, the animals, before the insects, the fish,  the fowls of the air, before the man, and before the woman.
        1. Before anything was brought into existence, there was the eternal, inspired, infallible, perfect, pure, powerful, Word
            of God.
    C. (Mt.  24:35), "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."
        1. After science, philosophy, education, governments, nations, kingdoms, empires, tyrants, dictators, and kings..
        2. After theology, biology, psychology...After socialism, communism & capitalism...After gold, silver, rubies, diamonds,
the dollar, the yen, the ruble, and the shekel...
        3. There will be the precious living Word of the Living God!
            a. The Word of God is permanent
II.  The Person of the Word of God. (John 5:39) “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
    A. The central character of the Word of God is Jesus Christ.
        1. The Bible tells of His pre-existence in (John 1:1).
        2. The Bible tells of His virgin birth in (Isaiah 7:14).
            a. Many false Christ’s will appear, Jesus said in (John 10:1-2). “That the Shepherd of the sheep enters in by the door
but the thief and robber climb up some other way to get into the sheepfold.”
            b. Jesus entered into the sheepfold through the door of Old Testament prophecy.
                1) That sheepfold is the nation of Israel.
                2) He didn’t climb into the sheepfold over a fence in the back.
                3) And He didn’t come in through the alleyway.
                4) He came in through the virgin birth through the line of David and Abraham.
                5) He’s the fulfillment of everything that had been mentioned in the Old Testament.
        3. The bible declares Him to be a seven fold King.
            a. He is King of the Jews that’s a racial King (Luke 23:38). “And a superscription also was written over him in letters
of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
            b. He is the King of Israel that’s a national King.
            c. He is the King of Righteousness
            d. He is the King of the ages.
            e. He is the King of heaven.
            f. He is the King of Glory
            g. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
    B. The bible tells how He established his Church during His personal ministry (Matt. 16:18).
        1. He used the material prepared by John the Baptist (Luke 1:17). “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power
of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready
a people prepared for the Lord.”
    C. The Bible tells of His atoning death in (Romans 5:8). “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
         1. (Acts 20:28) tells how He purchased His church with His own blood
    D. The Bible tells of His victorious resurrection in (Revelation 1:18). “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am
alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
    E. The Bible tells of His triumphant return in (Acts 1:11). “Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into
heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven,”
    F. The Bible tells of His righteous kingdom in (Revelation 20:6).  “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first
resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with
        him a thousand years.”
        1. Open the Bible anywhere, and it reveals Jesus.
        2.   Read the Bible anywhere, and it writes of Jesus.
        3.   Listen to the Bible anywhere, and it speaks of Jesus.
        4. That is why Philip could take a portion of Isaiah that the Ethiopian eunuch was reading and begin to preach Jesus
            Christ to him.
    G. The person of the Word is Jesus!
III. The Power of the Word.   (Hebrews 4:12) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
    A. There is great power in this world...
        1.  There is political power to control nations and people.
        2.  There is military power to destroy armies and strongholds.
        3.  There is financial power to buy, sell, and trade.
    B. But the power of the Word of God is greater than them all!
        1. It contains the mind of God and the ways of man.
        2. It contains the doom of unbelieving sinners, and the hope of heaven to all that trust Him as personal Saviour.
        3. It contains the uncertainty of life and the measure of eternity (James 4:14). “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the
morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
        4. It is able to convict the heart, and convert the soul.
        5. It is able to conquer the will, and capture the mind...
Conclusion: Is there a place in your life for the Word of God?
    A. Jesus told those wicked Jews who tried to destroy Him that His word had no place in them.
    B.  Does the Word of God have its proper place in your life?
        1. In your heart?  "Thy word have I hid in mine heart..." (Ps. 119:11).
        2. In your home?  "...thou shalt  teach them diligently unto thy children..." cf. De.6:7
        3. In your hand?  "But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only...” Jas. 1:22
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, why not come now in repentance and faith trusting Him.  Child of God does the Word of God have its proper place in your life?  Is it in your heart, your home, and your hand?  Are you living the Word of God?
