"The Gospel"

Text: Rom 1:14-17
Intro: This is not a new subject but neither is it hurt with age.
Definition = (Random House: 1. The teachings of Jesus and the Apostles; 2. Glad tidings esp. concerning salvation and the kingdom of God; 3. The story of Christ’s life and teaching)  What does the Bible say?
    A. Paul calls it the Gospel of Peace (Eph 6:15). “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”
        1. The Bible says the wicked have no peace (Isa 57:20-21)
        2. One receives peace by faith in Christ (Rom 5:1).
    B. It is a glorious gospel (2 Cor 4:4). In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest
the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
    C. It’s an everlasting Gospel (Rev 14:6).
    D. The Bible says it is how Christ died, was buried and raised again according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15:3-4).
        [Psa 22:14-18; Isa 53:9]
I. The Purpose of the Gospel.
    A. To save the lost (Luke 19:10). [Jer 29:13]
    B. To abolish death and bring life (eternal) and immortality to light (2 Tim 1:9-10).
        1. In His death, resurrection, and ascension, the doctrine of eternal life and the resurrection of the body and its final
incorruptibility are fully illustrated by example and established by fact.
    C. To prepare us for judgment (1 Peter 4:17) For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it
first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
II. The Power of the Gospel.
    A. God’s power to salvation (Rom 1:16).
        1. It is manifest in a holy life.
    B. There is power in material things such as volcano’s, water, and wind…
        1. These are unto death.
        2. The Gospel is the power of god unto life.
    C. The gospel moves men (1 Thess 1:5-8)
        1. The power must be applied.
III. The Demands of the Gospel.
    A. That we come (Matt 11:28).
    B. That we go (Matt 28:19)
    C. That we preach (2 Tim 4:2)
        1. This is the method that God has chosen (1 Corinthians 1:21) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by
wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.  (Romans 10:14)
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they
have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
    D. The Commission demands that we preach it to every creature (Mark 16:15).
IV. Its Promises
    A. Are great and precious “whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises” (2 Pet 1:4).
    B. God made them and he is able to fulfill them (Heb 10:23). Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
(for he is faithful that promised;)
    C. Some of God’s promises are conditional and some are unconditional.
        1. Unconditional promises
            a. Resurrection John 5:28-29
            b. Christ’s second coming (Acts 1:9-11).
        2. Conditional promises
            a. Bridal relationship (Col 1:21-23; Eph 2:10).
            b. God promised to save all that believe (Rom 10:13).
Conclusion: Are you obedient to the Gospel?
