Leviticus Chapter Twenty-Three

Introduction:
The feasts in this chapter portray God’s program of this age from Calvary to the Millennial Reign of Christ.
I.  Verse 5 The Passover, Pictures Christ our Redeemer.
     I Cor. 5:7; I Pet. 1:19-20
II. Verses 6-8 The Feast of Unleavened Bread.
    A.  This feast speaks of communion with Christ.
    B.  The Divine order is first Redemption then a holy walk.
III.  Verses 9-14 The Sheaf of First Fruits.
    A.  This feast is typical of resurrection.
    B.  First Christ’s resurrection Matt. 27:52-53
    C.  Then of those that are Christ’s at His coming I Cor. 15:23; I Thess.
          4:13-18
IV.  Verses 15-22 The Feast of Pentecost.
    A.   This anti-type is the descent of the Holy Spirit to the church at Pentecost. Acts 2:1-4
    B.   The wave-loaves were offered fifty days after the wave-sheaf which is the exact period of time between the
           resurrection of Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit to the church.  Acts 1:3-5; Acts 2:1

    C.   The two loaves represent both Israel and Gentiles.
    D.   Leaven is present because there is evil in the Lord’s churches. Acts 5:1-10; 15:1
V.   Verses 23-25 The Feast of Trumpets.
    A.  A long interval elapses between Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of Trumpets answering to the long period in the work
         of the Holy Spirit in the Lord’s New Testament churches.
    B.  These Trumpets are connected both to the rapture of the church and regathering of Israel.
VI.  Verses 26-32 The Day of Atonement.
    A.   The stress is laid upon the sorrow and repentance of Israel. V. 27
    B.   Looks forward to the repentance of Israel after her regathering under the Palestinian Covenant. Deut.30:1-10
    C.   Preparatory to the Second Advent of Messiah and the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom.
           Joel 2:1,11-15;  Zech.12:10-13
VII.  Verses 33-44 The Feast of Tabernacles.
    A. Prophetic as to the Kingdom-rest of Israel after her regathering and restoration.
