"But We See Jesus"

Text: Hebrews 2:5-9
Introduction: Hebrews is written to a persecuted and scattered population of Jewish Christians. The writer's desire is to encourage them in their faith by telling them about some BETTER THINGS!
A BETTER PRIESTHOOD
A BETTER SACRIFICE
A BETTER COVENANT
A BETTER REST
A BETTER FUTURE
As bad as it may seem today, the author, under divine inspiration says, THERE IS A BRIGHT LIGHT TO LIFT UP AND LOOK AT! BUT WE SEE JESUS!
     A. No matter how rough things get in this life, we see Jesus!
     B. No matter how hard it may be to feed the family, we see Jesus!
     C. No matter how wicked this world seems to be, we see Jesus!
     D. When we see Jesus.
         1. We can find the hope to hang in there.
         2. We can find the strength to keep on for Christ.
         3. We can find strength to keep doing what is right.
I. AS WE LOOK BACK THROUGH BIBLICAL HISTORY
     A. We see Jesus as the Promised Seed
         1. Promised first to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15
         2. Again to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-2
         3. This seed was then promised to Jacob, then Judah, and then David.
         4. He is promised in Isa 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear
a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
         5. The hope of the world rest upon this one promise made by the God.
             a. And one day in the fullness of God's time He KEPT HIS PROMISE! Gal. 4:4
                 a) A special Star signaled His arrival, Matt. 2:2.
                 b) The Angels of God sung about His appearance, Luke 2:13.
                 c) Even the sin filled world today celebrates His birth.
         6. That Promised Seed came for you and me! For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
     B. Next We See Jesus as the Powerful Son of God
         1. Walking on water, Matt. 14:
         2. Calming the storms, Mark
         3. Healing the sick, Matt. 9:21-22
         4. Raising the Dead, Luke 7:11-15; John 11:38-44
         5. Feeding the Multitudes, John 6:5-13.
         6. The centurion had it right when, at the cross he exclaimed "...Truly this was the Son of God..." Matthew 27:54.
     C. We See Jesus in humiliation, Phil. 2:5-8 Christ came in humility for two very important reasons:
         1. So people would be attracted to Him through faith and not because of what He could do for them.
             a. If you come to Christ for the wonderful things He can do for you, you’ll be disappointed!
             b. But, if in faith you come to Him as the only hope for to have your sins forgiven and to have an eternal home in
                 Heaven.
             c. He’ll grant you those, AND MAKE LIFE MUCH MORE ABUNDANT TOO!
         2. To teach us to serve and live humbly.
             a. Jesus taught the disciples that the servant is the greatest of all. Matt. 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among
you, let him be your servant:
     D. We See Jesus as the Spotless, Sinless Sacrifice. Hebrews 4 says "He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
          without sin."
         1. Because He is sinless, He can pay for our sin! 2 Cor 5:21 He made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we
might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
     E. As we look back at Biblical History We See Jesus as The Risen Saviour.  Matt 28:6 He is not here,  He is
risen, as He sad, come see the place where the Lord lay.
         1. 1 Cor 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for
our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and rose again the third day according to the
             scriptures:
         2. Jesus is alive today! And because He is alive He is able to save all who will come to
             a. He cares about what you and I are going through.
II. WE CAN STILL SEE JESUS TODAY
     A. We can see Him whenever a person trusts Jesus as Saviour.
         1. Those who once were vial become victorious.
         2. Those who once were lost became found.
         3. Those who once were hateful and proud become humble and loving.
III. Christ Can Most Clearly be Seen Today as We Look into His Word.
     A. One of the names of Jesus is "The Word." John 1:14; I John 5:7 There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father,
the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.
     B. The relationship between Jesus Christ the Living Word and the Holy Bible, the written Word is undeniable to any who
         will study this Book!
         1. And because of that relationship, wherever you look in the Bible, you see Jesus.
             a. In Genesis, He is the Word which Created all things, Gen. 1:1.
             b. In Exodus He is the Passover Lamb, and every other Sacrifice.
             c. In Joshua He is the angel of the Lord who fights for Israel5: 14-15.
             d. In the S.O.S. He is the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley, 2:1.
             e. In the book of Daniel He is the stone, cut without hands, 2:44-45.
             f. In the Prophets, He is the soon coming King.
             g. In the book of John He is the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world, 1:29.
             h. In Acts, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, 6:55.
             i. In Paul’s Epistles, Jesus is the Foundation and builder of His Church, I Cor. 3:10-11.
             j. In Hebrews, Jesus is the one Better than all before and any after.
             k. In the Peter’s Epistles, Jesus in the lively cornerstone, I Pet. 2:7.
             l. In the John’s Epistles, He is our Advocate when we sin, I John 2:1.
             m. In Jude, Jesus is the only Wise God our Saviour, 25.
             n. In Revelation, He is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
IV. WE WILL SEE JESUS IN THE FUTURE Revelation 1:7 says of Jesus "Behold, He cometh, and every eye shall see Him..."
     A. There is two notable events in the future in which we see Jesus very prominently.
         1. When He Calls His People to Heaven,1 Thess 4:13-18 Vs 16 "For the Lord Himself shall descend..."
a.What an experience that is going to be!
             b. Jesus described it in Matthew like this; Luke 17:34-36 I tell you, in that night there be two men in one bed; the
one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken,
and the other left. 36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
             c. One is saved and the other is not.
             d. Jesus calls his own to heaven, and there is a wife, suddenly, without warning, alone!
             e. A young man and his brother are playing together.
                 a) One is saved, and the other isn't.
                 b) There is a great crash of thunder and the unsaved one is standing by himself!
         2. When He Comes to End the Tribulation, Rev.19: 11-13; 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds;and every eye shall see
him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
             a. After all the Christians are taken off of this earth, Satan will have a chance to have almost complete dominion here.
             b. And those left on this earth will experience seven years of events so horrible that the Bible says there has been
                 nothing like it!
                 a)  Jesus said that it will be so horrible that, if he didn't come to stop it, there would no flesh be saved, Matthew
                      24:22.
Conclusion: When He comes how will you see Him? As your Saviour or Judge?
